Overview
Kanchanar Guggulu Vati is a classical Ayurvedic formulation built around Kanchanar and Guggulu, supported by Triphala, Trikatu, Varuna and other herbs.
It is traditionally used to support Kapha balance, healthy tissue metabolism and comfortable movement of fluids and tissues, particularly in Ayurvedic care where swelling, heaviness or tissue congestion is present.
Traditional Ayurvedic Perspective
In Ayurveda, Kanchanar Guggulu is traditionally associated with Kapha balance and Lekhana, or the traditional concept of reducing excess accumulation in the tissues.
Kanchanar and Guggulu form the central part of the formulation, while Triphala and Trikatu support digestion and metabolism. Its use is traditionally guided by the individual’s Dosha, Agni, tissue condition and overall clinical presentation.

Research Highlights
Kanchanara Guggulu : Laboratory Research
Pharmacological research
Research on Kanchanara Guggulu has investigated its phytochemical profile and potential biological activity. LC-MS/MS metabolomic analysis identified numerous compounds in the formulation, including quercetin- and kaempferol-related compounds.
The research provides information about the chemical profile of the classical formulation, but it does not establish clinical effectiveness for thyroid disorders, cysts or tumours.
Research in Hypothyroidism
A 2024 published clinical-trial protocol was designed to compare an Ayurvedic treatment approach involving Kshar Basti and oral Kanchanar Guggulu with levothyroxine in patients with hypothyroidism.
The study was designed to assess changes in thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). Importantly, this publication is a study protocol, not the final clinical results. Therefore, it should not be presented as evidence that Kanchanar Guggulu is effective for hypothyroidism.
