Overview
Vasadi Ghana Vati combines four traditionally valued herbs with a particular focus on respiratory wellbeing. Vasa is traditionally associated with the respiratory system, while Pippali, Marich and Sunthi are valued in Ayurveda for supporting digestion, helping balance Kapha and promoting healthy respiratory function.
Traditional Ayurvedic Perspective
In Ayurveda, respiratory complaints such as Kasa and Shwasa are often associated with disturbance of Kapha and impaired movement of Vata. Vasadi preparations are traditionally used to support the respiratory channels, promote easier movement of accumulated Kapha and maintain healthy Agni.
Vasa is one of the classical Ayurvedic herbs associated with Kasa and Shwasa, while Pippali, Marich and Sunthi are traditionally used for their Deepana, Pachana and Kapha-balancing properties.

A pharmacognostical study of the classical Vasadi Vati describes its use in Tamaka Shwasa and notes the traditional Yogaratnakara formulation. The classical formulation studied contained Vasa, Haridra, Dhanyaka, Guduchi, Bharangi, Pippali, Sunthi, Kantakari and Marich.
Research Highlights
Vasa and respiratory health
A PubMed-indexed clinical review examined different Vasa (Adhatoda vasica) preparations used for Tamaka Shwasa (asthma). The review reported favourable findings for preparations including Vasa Ghana, Vasa Ghrita and Vasa Avaleha, while also noting that the evidence varied by formulation. This research concerns Vasa preparations and is not a clinical trial of the present four ingredient Vasadi Ghana Vati.
